ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income

Why this book?

The primary reason I chose this book was to learn more about the world of blogging. Before this class I had never posted or even followed a blog. This first blog post of my life was on our class blog for our social media projects. I really enjoyed composing the blog, while I was doing it and reading other’s responses. I guess the whole idea of blogging to me was very foreign and I wanted to learn more about it.

What is the book about?

This particular book is about how to monetize a blog. The book doesn’t just dive into technical, specific details, it begins to walk someone through brainstorming techniques and ideas before a blog is even constructed. This book is more a guideline on the thought processes successful bloggers use to have a blog to produce six figures annually for them. It is a written in real talk, so that less technically inclined people can understand and learn that you don’t have to be a computer genius to successfully blog for or not for money. Page one of the book subheading is “What is a Blog?”. It starts off with the basic definition and then goes into the BIG question, what should your blog be about and consist of. This book is full of very useful information on how to setup, startup, format, different advertising—if any to consider, and other ways to monetize a blog. Most be people that selling ad space of generating revenue for selling you own products through your blog are the only way to make money, this is definitely not true as I learned throughout this book. There are many other ways a blog can be monetized such as: getting paid to write on other’s blogs, sponsorship, paid reviews, speaking engagements, service contracts, freelance writing, counseling others, buying and selling blogs, also pure and simple donations from dedicated followers, just to name a few.

What are the strongest aspects of the book?

The most important and encouraging points made in this book are: 1. Blogging for money takes time 2. Take it one step at a time, don’t try and do everything overnight 3. Blogs take hard work and a lot of discipline.

Who is/are the author(s) and what are his/her/their qualifications for writing it?

Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett

Darren Rowse is the founder of problgger.net. Chris Garret is a writer, internet consultant, and professional blogger. Both men have created a successful organizations dedicated to support and services of bloggers. They are highly sought after for speaking engagements. Both have made a more than comfortable living from blogging.

This book is a great, simple, and informative read! I would recommend it to anyone who is a current blogger, or interested in starting to blog. Whether you are thinking about blogging for money or not, this book is very insightful and full of great tips and tricks to blogging.

  1. I had definitely gotten to taking donations, selling a product, and selling ad space as ways to monetize my craft blog that I started to accompany my etsy.com store, but I like the idea of paid reviews and sponsorship. I've heard of yarn companies sponsoring really wild crafters, and I bet if I can get my viewership up a bit higher, I could get a deal with RedHeart Brand.

The last guy I saw who had a sponsorship from Lion Brand yarn had crocheted a lawnmower and urinal. It was horrible quality, but great on the shock value. I know I can do better than that. I may have to pick up this book just to see what else it's got that I can use for my craft company.

Did the book mention anything about different blogging sites? I'm starting to wonder if wordpress is what I should be going with or if I should migrate my blog to another host.

  2. This book definately sounds interesting to me. I think that any book that can detail things like blogging in simple terms would be beneficial to read. I am curious to understand the main elements of monitizing a blog are. I would guess that the main key element is advertising, but my curiosity is piqued.

  3. This sounds like a great book. For our social media project we are trying to figure out the best way to monetize our blog and so far have been unsuccessful. I think this sounds like a really good book for future bloggers in Marketing 470.

  4. I think that this is a book I will read. The book that I read about blogging shared no information on how to monitize the blog. I think this will be essential if I am going to continue blogging.
